As an Adult Mentor for the Communities for Work Programme, I support members of the
community aged 25 plus into training and Employment. Based in the West of Cardiff, Ely/Caerau
Hub. My caseload consists of individuals that may have not been employed for many years. From
the point of Engagement individuals could present as feeling very negative about their lives. Some
could have very limited communication skills, low self-esteem, low aspirations and many had given
up on ever achieving qualifications, let alone employment opportunities. The benefits of partnership
working with Sparkles, using a Community based approach, offering continuous 1:1 support,
encouragement, and skill building, has provided individuals the opportunities to grow emotionally,
expand their knowledge and skills and reach their end goals of gaining employment, with the
knowledge that they have on going support. In turn this has maximised results for the Local
community and Employment opportunities.
